Our weekly Queen of Hearts drawing in support of the agency is coming into its 8th week at J.J. Kelley’s in Lansing, and the jackpot should exceed $12,000 on April 13! Not sure how it works? Here’s a quick explanation:
The game board started out with a full deck of cards plus two jokers randomly distributed behind numbered doors. We purchased a manufactured board, so we truly have no idea which card is behind which door! The object of the game is to find the Queen of Hearts, so players purchase tickets every week and indicate which little door they would like to have opened if their ticket is drawn. Every week that the Queen isn’t found, the prize increases and rolls over.
Tickets are available for the next week the minute after we draw the current week, and remain available up until 15 minutes before the subsequent drawing. The beauty of our particular event is that tickets may be purchased ANY time during business hours, not just when we are there. Having lunch on a Thursday? Get your tickets! Out with your friends on a Saturday night? Purchase right then! You will find a little dispenser machine right next to the ATM just inside the main door which takes cash ($1 for one ticket, $5 for six, $10 for 12, and $20 for 24 tickets). Simply write your name and phone on the back, and be sure to indicate which little door you would like to have opened if your ticket is drawn. You may write the same number on all of your tickets, or mix it up, but just be sure you don’t write down a number that has already been opened! (There are displays at the bar to help you decide) The dispenser cabinet has a little slot where you return your tickets for the next drawing.
And you don’t even have to be there to win! If your ticket is pulled and reveals the Queen, you will win 50% of the jackpot, even if you aren’t present. But if you ARE there and this happens, you will win 60%! If you are there and your ticket is drawn, you will automatically win $25, and if you reveal any of the other Queens, you will receive $100. We also have lots of fun on drawing night, with special themes, a 50/50, and menu specials. We have celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, World Down Syndrome Day, and our Executive Director’s anniversary, to name a few. Some of our upcoming themes include:
